UMD: Congresswoman Johnson (Texas) Joins the Macedonia Caucus

The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) is pleased to announce that Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (Democrat-Texas) has joined the Congressional Caucus on Macedonia and Macedonian-Americans (Macedonia Caucus) bringing the membership up to 18.  Congresswoman Johnson serves the Thirtieth Congressional District of Texas.

Congresswoman Johnson has been a U.S. House Representative since 1992.  In December 2010, Congresswoman Johnson was elected as the first African-American and the first female Ranking Member of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology.  From 2000 to 2002, she was the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Research and Science Education.  Since coming to Congress, Congresswoman Johnson has earned the reputation of being a stateswoman who is dedicated to improving U.S. foreign relationships and policies.  She works tirelessly towards improving human rights around the globe.  Congresswoman Johnson’s acclaimed initiative “A World of Women for World Peace” has been nationally and internationally recognized.

“Congresswoman Johnson is a friend of the Macedonian-American community and Macedonia, which she has visited.  UMD and Macedonian-Americans are honored to have Congresswoman Johnson join the Macedonia Caucus, and we welcome her support for Macedonia and its NATO membership,” said UMD President Metodija A. Koloski.  “With the joining of Congresswoman Johnson, the Macedonia Caucus increased to eighteen members.”

The Macedonia Caucus, chaired by longstanding friend of Macedonia, Congresswoman Candice Miller (R-MI), serves as a body to maintain and strengthen the positive and mutually beneficial relationship between the United States and Macedonia.

As the voice for Macedonian-Americans in Washington, D.C., UMD looks forward to working with all Macedonia Caucus members in furthering its work to strengthen U.S.-Macedonia relations.  UMD encourages all Macedonian-Americans to contact their members of Congress and ask them to join the bipartisan Congressional Caucus on Macedonia and Macedonian-Americans.  Please click HERE to send your letter.
